Known as the golf Mecca of the world, Scotland embraces the old and the new that love the game. Now there is a worthy addition to the great courses of Scotland. The Renaissance Club will provide an incredible golfing experience from the hands of Mother Nature and minimalist golf course architect Tom Doak. To stand on the holes viewing the Firth of Forth is breathtaking and reminiscent of the golf games of yesteryear. The Renaissance Club golf course has been designed and routed by Tom Doak and his team at Renaissance Golf, Inc. Tom’s design work is known across the world, and he has a leading reputation for building courses on great sites like Archerfield. He has designed and helped build over twenty courses in recent years, including public, private, and resort and development designs. He has been named Golf Architect of the Year and several of his courses are now ranked among the world’s very best, most notably Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Oregon. Because of his high regard for the special nature of property and the history of the area in terms of golf itself, Tom was pleased to have The Renaissance Club as the name of the club, both for the meaning of the word and its connection to Doak’s Renaissance Golf, Inc. A quotation attributed to Tom Doak is particularly applicable: The most noteworthy courses of the past decade have been among
the least expensive to build. Thanks to clients who understand the value of beautiful property, we’re able to create courses which compare to the best of the past … and look like they have been here just as long. There was very little earth moving in the construction of the course so that the design naturally uses the original dunes landscape typical of true links land. Doak and his team incorporated these contours into the course design while leaving certain trees of significance (or stands of trees) to enhance the beauty and challenges of play on the course, giving the course a truly distinctive style (windswept and open dunes land with trees coming into play on a truly coastal links course in Scotland).
This is acclaimed architect Tom Doak’s first Scottish design opportunity and is most certain to become one of the finest courses in Scotland. Tom Doak is recognized as the “founder of the minimalist design movement”. Visit his website at www.doakgolf.com. Other Doak Design courses of note are: Pacific Dunes, Lost Dunes and Stonewall all ranked within the Top 100 modern courses in the U.S. by Golfweek.
“To work in Scotland is a dream for any golf architect. The property for The Renaissance Club is unexpected, with sandy soils and windy conditions, combined with a variety of woods, gentle hills and open links, will give us the chance to build a special golf course with a character all its own.”
